FEATURES

This disc has been prepared by Kinowelt in Germany for staggered release in
Europe. This issue of the DVD  is available in Germany, The Netherlands, UK,
Italy, and Austria. The menu system can be configured for English, German and
Italian languages.

The movie itself is the 'Hybrid' version as seen on disc one of the Anchor Bay
release presented anamorphically.

The Menu system is perhaps the best designed of all the versions currently
available worldwide.

A range of subtitle options are present that cover most of Europe. Language
soundtrack options available are in English of course, German and Italian.

Surprisingly there is no French language soundtrack or subtitles so either
France is getting it's own unique version or they are going to be lumbered
with the below-par 'Le Sixième Sens' version from 1999 which does
contain a French soundtrack.

Extras

The disc contains the same enlightening documentaries as the Anchor Bay
US disc. 'The Manhunter Look' and 'Inside Manhunter' are both invaluable
items although Michael Mann is conspicuous by his absence. The trailer is
present and a feature unique to the European disc is a collection of poster art,
most of which is supplied courtesy of yours truly.

It would have been nice if the extra scenes from the Director's Cut had made it
onto this disc as deleted scenes as was originally planned but alas this was
not to be.

The UK DVD comes with a Unique 54 page companion booklet written by Steven
Paul Davies called "Michael Mann's HeadGames"  which contains amongst
other tidbits an interview with Brian Cox which previously appeared in Projections
7
and is the highlight of the booklet.

SUMMARY

s this the ultimate 'Manhunter DVD' ? No, but it's a great item  nonetheless. I
doubt that an 'all-singing, all-dancing' DVD will ever appear but for now at least,
the 'European DVD' is an essential addition to any Michael Mann fans collection.

... with thanks to Kinowelt for their support.
